Fendermen co-founder Jim Sundquist is on the mend after being laid low recently by a blood ailment. The prognosis is good, and family and friends are praying hard that Jim will be back on stage with the Fendermen before too long.
More details here from the February 29, 2008 Minneapolis Star Tribune article by Tom Surowicz:
Fenderman's Blues
"My wife, Sharrie, asked me if it was OK for something to appear in the newspaper. I told her, 'This is showbiz! Good news. Bad news. In-between news. It's always good to be in the newspaper when you're booking and running a band." So says Minnesota rockabilly hero Jim Sundquist of the Fendermen, the man behind the 1960 hit "Mule Skinner Blues." He was still going strong until a misdiagnosed staph infection put him in Fairview Southdale Hospital nearly three weeks ago. "His left hand swelled up like a balloon, and it was affecting his heart and lungs -- everything," Sharrie Sundquist said. "He was balancing on the edge." Two surgeries and two blood transfusions later, he's looking forward to physical therapy at Redeemer Health & Rehab Center in Minneapolis, a place he knows well because it's his day gig -- he's an art and music therapist, playing guitar and helping elderly patients do artwork.
More information will be posted as it becomes available. You can contact Jim by mail through the address on the Contact page or post a message in the Guestbook located there (scroll down).

In 1960, the
Fendermen, Phil Humphrey and Jim Sundquist, a couple kids from Madison,
Wisconsin, rode to the top of the Billboard Charts with their hit 'Mule
Skinner Blues.' They recorded some great music and toured the country,
playing anywhere with a stage until parting ways in 1961. People who saw
them never forgot the power and excitement generated by just two guys
and their guitars.
Today, Jim
Sundquist, Jim Chuesberg and a revolving group of friends still play 52
weekends a year under the Fendermen moniker, delighting crowds with their
effortless recapturing of the original Fendermen spirit, and the sounds
of classic country and rock-a-billy.
